Detour

"We are finally getting settled", ha! Famous last words if ever I heard any. On the very day that we transferred the last load and got the internet sorted out, I discovered a peculiar lump on little guy, called the doctor, and the next thing I know we were being medevac-ed to London. He needed surgery that it turned out was not life-threatening, but was an ordeal nonetheless.

The trip has consisted of an endless stream of doctors visits, peaking with the surgery, followed by more doctors. There are only so many things you can do with a 15-month-old, so in between we keep ourselves entertained by exploring opulent London's well maintained sidewalks. Quite a culture shock for us in fact, coming from a developing nation.

I took advantage of the opportunity to address a health issue of my own--persistent low iron. I can always tell when I'm getting low because I suddenly have an unquenchable desire for ice. Luckily our hotel provides.

I was able to get an iron infusion. Going to the hospital child-free, sitting in a chair for two hours, and getting lunch served is the most pampering I get these days.

After most of the procedures were done we had a few free days, so we visited some old friends in the Cotswolds over the weekend. The only documentation I have is the photo I took at The Air Balloon pub of a phenomenal lamb shank. Hubby would have loved this. . .

After a much-needed weekend with friends we returned to Paddington Station via train. It's been a successful trip in every way--we are both on the road to good health--but after two weeks away from family we can't wait to return.
